Meta seems to be working on its own DM function for Threads

Threads may get a feature that lets users send DMs. Meta has not yet officially announced the feature, so it is still unknown when it will be available to all Threads users.

Developer and leaker Alessandro Paluzzi shares screenshots of the feature via X. The first screenshot shows a button that takes the user to their personal messages. This button is identical in design to Instagram's DM button. Another screenshot states that this is a prototype that is only being tested by Threads employees. In addition, the messages are not encrypted.

It is noteworthy that a DM function in Threads is being worked on. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said last year that a separate option for sending DMs would not be added. Last month, Threads experimented with sending personal messages from Threads to Instagram. For a number of Threads users, the mention button was replaced by a DM button.
