The military cooperation agreement with the US, known as a DCA agreement, has been likened by critics to a surrender document.
The agreement gives the US military the right to use 17 different Swedish military bases across the country.
Unlike similar agreements as the USA has with Denmark and Norway, there are no specific bans on nuclear weapons on Swedish soil.
In an interview with P1 Morgon on Monday morning, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) says that he is open to the placement of American nuclear weapons in Sweden if we are at war.
– In a war situation it is a completely different matter. Should the very worst happen, of course the democratic countries in our part of the world must ultimately be able to defend themselves against countries that could threaten with nuclear weapons, says Kristersson and continues:
– But our entire NATO membership and our entire Swedish After all, defense aims to prevent that situation from occurring. If Ukraine had been a member of NATO, they would not have been attacked by Russia.
