Boy Scouts of America has been called just that in 114 years – but now the name is changing to 'Scouting America'.
The Texas-based organization announced the historic name change at its annual meeting in Florida on Tuesday.
– For the next 100 years we want all young people in the United States to feel very, very welcome to our programs, said Scoutmaster Roger Krone in an interview prior to the announcement.
The Boy Scouts of America's cultural Marxist journey has been rocky. The organization was long subjected to strong political pressure to change its rules on homosexuals. Originally, openly gay leaders were barred from the organization, but the rules have been loosened over time. Finally, in July 2015, the board decided to also allow adult openly gay men as youth leaders and employees.
The reason for the ban on gay leaders was a very high incidence of homosexual abuse within the Scouts. Hundreds of lawsuits have been brought against the organization by former members who claim to have been subjected to such abuse.
A secret register revealed a few years ago contained the names of nearly 8,000 scout leaders who were suspected of sexually abusing more than 12,000 boys. .
