At the beginning of the month it was very cold in the northern parts of the country for the time of year, with temperatures down to -30°C in places. The night of the 5th was locally the coldest April night in decades in Norrland.
The coldest was in Naimakka in northern Tornedalen where the temperature dropped all the way down to -34.6°C. This was the lowest temperature of the month, and the lowest April temperature measured in the country since 1991. Worth noting is that the lowest temperature in April was lower than the lowest temperature -31.3°C in March, which is not typical.
< p>The cold start was followed by a period when it was warmer than normal throughout the country. The heat meant that spring advanced north, and on the 9th spring had arrived in the whole country except for northernmost Norrland and the mountains. Already on the 6th, summer arrived in record time at three of SMHI's stations, namely Malmö, Kristianstad and Karlshamn. A day later, summer also arrived in Gladhammar.
From the middle of the month, the country was once again covered by cold air, and in many places it was very cold for so late in April. The month had a slightly warmer end. On the 28th, warm air was brought up over the southernmost parts of the country and the month's highest temperature of 23.3°C was reported from Gothenburg.
Overall, it was a month with normal monthly average temperatures in Götaland, while the rest of the country had slightly lower temperatures than normally. The deviation was greatest in northern Norrland, where the average monthly temperature locally was 2-3 degrees colder than normal for the time of year.
