Domestic. After it emerged that a female prison guard sent scantily clad images to an incarcerated gang member, the Correctional Service is now commenting for the first time on the phenomenon of female officers applying to the authority to initiate sexual relations with gang criminals.

It is in the newspaper Faktum that Josefin Skoglund, section manager of the security department within the Correctional Service, says that the employed women are in fact victims who are exploited by the gang criminals.
– We have very potent inmates, who have other incentives and a great ability to manipulate, she explains to the newspaper.
She is supported by Johanna Skinnari, who is an investigator at Brå and will lead the work to improve the situation for the vulnerable female employees at the Correctional Service. She explains to the newspaper that the women who are “at the greatest risk of being exploited” may have had other troubles in life, such as financial problems, being single, etc.
– Those looking for people to exploit know this. They keep track of who has gone wrong in their staff group and build a relationship to exploit, she explains.
In any case, it is clear that the Correctional Service has a growing problem with this type of innocent women who happened to end up a little crooked. According to figures obtained by DN last autumn, the number of case reports, i.e. reports of suspicion, had increased from 85 in 2020 to 366 in 2022.
It is also clear that the managers at the Correctional Service have decided to proceed cautiously as they approach the issue and decide on possible action.
In one of the later examples, a female correctional officer at the Kronoberg Prison in Stockholm was allowed to keep her job at the Correctional Service after she was caught sending scantily clad pictures and the text “kiss babe” to an incarcerated male gang member after he was moved from the capital to Visby.
From the gang members' discussions, which the Probation Service obtained, it appears that the woman had relationships with several inmates with connections to the gang.
The news about this particular woman has given rise to a debate in social media where many question whether it is reasonable that almost all of the authority's managers are women. Others question whether the decision is truly equal, and speculate that a male prison guard who had sex with a large number of female inmates would possibly have lost his job.
The female infiltrators, however, rarely lose their jobs, according to Faktum. Instead, the consequence is usually a serious “conversation” with the manager. In serious cases, the case goes to the personnel responsibility board PAN, where salary deductions are usually the result. Only one employee has been reported to the police, and that happened in 2022.
