“Akbar cracked the reading code”: SVT pays tribute to an Afghan who learned to read at the level of a ten-year-old

According to the latest statistics from Statistics Sweden, there were around 780,000 illiterate people between the ages of 16 and 65 in Sweden.

The figure is expected to increase when new updates are made this winter, according to SVT Nyheter Västmanland.

– Every month we receive 8-10 students who are illiterate, says Rita Sommarkrans, SFI teacher in Västerås.

However, SVT has a sunny story to tell in this context. It concerns 33-year-old Akbar from Afghanistan, who according to SVT “cracked the reading code in record speed”. 4-5. It is unique, according to his SFI teacher,” reports SVT.

– Learning the language is the first and most important step towards entering society, says Akbar to SVT.
