Szijjarto was interviewed by French broadcaster LCI on Thursday and asked for his views on Macron's renewed threat to deploy French troops to back Kiev in its war against Russia.
The minister strongly condemned the idea, saying that the French leader's comments in themselves have helped to escalate the situation.
– If a NATO member deploys ground troops, it will be a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia and it will then to mean the third world war, Szijjarto told the TV giant.
Macron stepped up his threats to deploy French troops in Ukraine on Thursday, when he defended such a solution in an interview with The Economist.
