A court in The Hague has ruled that the introduction of the corona admission ticket was not a violation of fundamental rights. The judge concluded that there was interference with fundamental rights, but that the Dutch government also had demonstrable reasons for this. According to the NOS, the court was of the opinion that the Dutch government made a well-considered choice. “Some were hindered in their participation in society by the corona pass, while others were protected by it,” it said.

The lawsuit was filed at the end of 2022 by three opponents of the corona admission ticket. These opponents viewed the evidence as government pressure to force people to be vaccinated and had also demanded compensation. According to the NOS, they did not receive one.

The corona admission ticket was introduced on September 25, 2021 and was in force until February 25, 2022. This involved a QR code that could indicate whether the holder had been fully vaccinated for the coronavirus, was recovering from infection with this virus or had recently tested negative. Users could print a QR code or use the CoronaCheck app. Since July 1, 2023, it is no longer possible to create digital corona certificates via the app. Tweakers wrote a background article at the end of 2021 about how exactly the CoronaCheck app worked and also discussed how the app was phased out in 2022.
