KPN will replace the existing Optical Network Terminal fiber optic box for an unknown number of customers. The new Nokia boxes are less sensitive to malfunctions than the existing Genexis boxes. Customers are asked to make an appointment with a technician.

According to KPN, a number of customers receive an email from Roamler, the mechanic company with which the provider collaborates. Customers must make an appointment with this. This only applies if they are called upon to do so. Replacing the cabinets costs customers nothing and installation takes about fifteen minutes, according to the provider. It is not known how many customers this happens to.

The provider does not explicitly say what kind of new boxes it will install, but a support page shows that the company will use a new model from Nokia. That is the Nokia XGS-PON ONT box, the the Genexis XGS-PON. It is being replaced. “The new fiber optic box lasts longer and is less sensitive to disruptions. This way we ensure that you can continue to enjoy the best network in the future,” writes KPN.
