Sonos will stop supporting the desktop apps for Windows and macOS. In its place will be a web app. The mobile apps for iOS and Android will have a new interface, the company says.

Sonos says that support for the apps will end 'in the near future', but does not give a specific date for this. In the footage, the web app appears to have the same interface elements as the new Sonos Controller app, which will be released next month.

The new apps no longer have a tab with options. Instead, all options are processed on a single page with a permanent search bar on screen. There is also a new music player on display and a swipe over it leads customers to the list of speakers. According to Sonos, the updated app has been completely rebuilt to be faster and more reliable.

It is unknown whether all elements of the current app will be included in the new app. The new Sonos Controller apps for iOS and Android will be released on May 7. The web app will also be usable from that date.
