Qualcomm and Meta collaborate to optimize Llama 3 for Snapdragon smartphones. This allows Meta's latest major language models to be used directly on smartphones, PCs, VR glasses and in cars, among others.
Qualcomm writes that developers will have access to tools in the company's AI Hub to use Llama 3 to optimize for use on Snapdragon platforms. It is not clear when and in which devices Llama 3 will be available first. AI functions based on Llama 2 have also been supported on Snapdragon smartphones since this year.
Meta announced its Llama 3 models last week and announced that the models will be used for the new AI assistant from the tech giant that can be used in apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook.
While future Android smartphones with a Snapdragon SoC can use Meta's AI model through the collaboration, it is rumored that Apple is negotiating with Google to implement Gemini in iOS 18.
