Microsoft is asking Windows 10 users in a new update to convert their local account to a Microsoft account. This is a preview version of the operating system, so it is not clear whether this is a permanent feature or not.

The changes are in Preview build 19045.4353 of Windows 10 22H2. The release notes state that there will now be an 'account-related notification for Microsoft accounts' in the Settings menu. Neowin managed to take a screenshot of that call. In the settings menu there is a call to log in with a Microsoft account if users have not already done so.

In the release notes, Microsoft explains what the added value of such an account would be; This allows users, for example, to back up data or take measures to prevent being locked out of their account. The notes also state that users will also see such notifications in the start menu. According to Neowin it is possible to disable the notifications.
