NOS, Telegraaf: Viaplay continues to retain broadcasting rights for Formula 1

Formula 1 races will continue to be shown on Viaplay for at least several years to come. The streaming service retains the contract for racing matches, although Ziggo is said to have offered more money for the rights.

NOS and Telegraaf, among others, report this based on sources. Viaplay is said to have acquired the rights for F1 competitions until 2029, writes De Telegraaf. Both media write that Viaplay is paying a lot of money for this: 45 million per year, a significant increase compared to the thirty million per year that Viaplay paid between 2022 and 2024.

That offer would not be the highest, says the NOS. Ziggo, which owned the broadcasting rights for years, would have offered more to broadcast matches again with presenters such as Olav Mol. However, Formula 1 would have opted to maintain the contract with Viaplay.

There has been a lot of fuss about the streaming service since the move to Viaplay. They already increased subscription prices and stopped offering a cheaper annual subscription. When Viaplay acquired the broadcasting rights, there were many complaints about the quality of streams. It now also appears that Viaplay is doing poorly financially.
