Brein leader Tim Kuik, who has long been the face of the fight against online piracy in the Netherlands, will retire next month. Bastiaan van Ramshorst will succeed him at the foundation that works for copyright holders.

Kuik worked at the Brein Foundation for 25 years and is now quitting at the age of 67, he says in an interview with HollandFilmNieuws. Before his time at Brein, Kuik already worked for organizations that combated illegal distribution of music and films, for example on video tapes.

The Brein Foundation and Kuik as the face of that organization needed security ten to fifteen years ago. because of the aggression against the foundation to counter the efforts to prevent downloading. In the meantime, according to Kuik, those tensions have decreased. His successor Bastiaan van Ramshorst, who has worked at Brein for 14 years, will be involved in combating illegal IPTV services and the associated boxes.
