A pilot project was launched this week which means the police start using the 112 app to reach out with information to users who are in a geographical area where a serious violent crime has occurred.

It may be about an event connected to the serious gang violence, such as an explosion , or to disseminate information of a crime prevention nature or obtain tips.

– Being given the opportunity to use the 112 app in the event of serious violent crimes is a new tool for the Police Authority which we hope can lead to more tips in the hunt for the perpetrator, strengthened citizen dialogue and increased prosecution capacity, says Peter Allheim, police commissioner at Noa, in a press release.< /p>

The purpose of the police's communication in the 112 app is both to share information with the public and to obtain information and tips. During the pilot project, “Explosion” will be added as a 112 event and go out to users of the 112 app nationwide. Through it, users who are nearby receive information about a feared explosion and that the police have been alerted to the scene. However, such information only reaches users of the app within a limited area around the incident itself.

Other police information, such as information about a current crime pattern in a certain geographic area or that the police are looking for tips connected to a specific incident , will initially be sent to users in the Stockholm area, and then gradually include users throughout Sweden.

– We are very happy to deepen our collaboration and be able to support the Police Authority in its work against serious violence. Our vision is that the 112 app, which today has approximately 1.2 million active users, should be able to be used as a platform for more actors to reach out with crisis and important social information. The pilot project will give us lessons and insights that will hopefully lead to more collaborations, says Rebecka Lindin, product owner for the 112 app.
