A report from Umeå University recently showed that a majority of Sámi women have been subjected to sexual violence and almost one in three to physical violence.

The proportions are significantly higher than for women in Sweden as a whole.

The government now commissions the Equality Authority to “compile a situational picture of the vulnerability to men's violence against women, other violence in intimate relationships as well as honor-related violence and oppression of children and adults who belong to national minorities”.

The authority must also promote efforts aimed at combat this phenomenon, such as promoting the development of preventive measures, spreading knowledge to relevant target groups about available protection and support measures for children and adults exposed to violence, as well as working with “knowledge-raising measures”.

Within the scope of the mission to compile a situational picture, the authority must also report on what preventive and supportive efforts exist today, such as protection and support of children and adults exposed to violence within the national minorities, and to what extent these have been evaluated.

The Equality Authority must no later than 31 March 2027 submit a final report of the assignment to the government.
