Google will stop One's VPN service 'later this year'

Google will stop offering the VPN service with its cloud storage app Google One. It is not yet clear when exactly the service will cease to exist. Google will refer existing users to VPNs from other providers.

The internet company has informed customers of the service via an email in which it describes some adjustments to One. Google tells 9to5Google that there is not enough interest in the VPN service. By discontinuing the service, the company will have more time for tools for One that are in greater demand, Google told the site.

VPN by Google One became available at the end of 2020 and can now be used in 22 countries , including the Netherlands and Belgium. Last year, the service was made available for the cheaper One subscriptions from 1.99 euros per month. Previously, the VPN was only available to Premium subscribers, who pay 9.99 euros per month and get two terabytes of storage space.
