Law & Right. One of those who are critical of the government trying to present it as if it is the EU that is behind Sweden's homemade ban on May bonfires is Swedish EU parliamentarian Emma Wiesner (C).

“Banning garden cleaning in the plot has clearly NOT been the intention of the EU”, she notes on Twitter.com and continues:
“I will continue to set fire to my leaves and I expect Pourmokhtari to act as soon as possible”.
According to Wiesner, all municipalities should for the time being do as Halmstad and announce exemptions for all private individuals who want to burn. According to the waste regulation, the municipalities can grant exemptions from Romina Pourmokhtari's new provision when deemed necessary.
Emma Wiesner (C) is also critical of the Environmental Protection Agency spreading the government's incorrect claim that it is the EU that is behind the new law and not the government.
“We don't need more myths about the EU in this election campaign – when it's clearly about Sweden's self-harming inability to interpret legislation in a sensible way,” notes Emma Wiesner.
