Google Photos users will get free access to the platform's AI photo editing features starting May 15. This includes the Sharpen, Magic Eraser, Portrait Light and the Magic Editor functions.

Google writes in a blog post that from May 15 it may take several weeks before every user has access to the AI functions. The American tech giant mentions in its blog functions such as Sharpen, Magic Eraser, Portrait Light and Magic Editor, but according to 9to5Google, some AI tools are still being made available for free, such as an HDR effect for photos and videos, color pop, sky suggestions, cinematographic photos, a collage editor and video effects.

Some limitations apply only to the Magic Editor. Android and iOS users get ten Magic Editor saves per month. According to Google, those who do not want to be bothered by this limit can still take out a subscription to Google One or purchase a Pixel device.

Google also mentions the minimum system requirements that users' devices must meet. The features will be available specifically for devices running Android 8.0 and higher, and for devices running iOS 15 and higher, both with at least 3GB of RAM, while your Chromebook Plus must run ChromeOS 118 or higher. Until recently, the majority of Google Photos' AI features could only be used by Google One customers or Pixel users.
