Three brigades from the 98 division left the area around Khan Yunis on Sunday, writes The Jerusalem Post with reference to the military's radio broadcasts.
Israel has threatened a ground offensive against Rafah, a city in southern Gaza where a large number of refugees are. Among other things, the United States has strongly opposed such an invasion.
After the retreat on Sunday, however, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu still claims that he “absolutely” intends to continue into Rafah, his spokesperson told Sky News.
