On Friday, the Moderates' parliamentary group was called to a crisis meeting due to the storm of criticism against the new gender law.
According to DN, the fact that the party called a crisis meeting was due to the fact that “outrage against the prime minister” was great within the own parliamentary group.
On Thursday, Kristersson said that he believes there should be an 18-year-old limit for changing legal sex, even though the bill that he wants the parliamentary group to approve contains a provision that lowers that limit to 16.
But after the crisis meeting, it is clear that nothing will change in the Moderates' attitude to the law.
“Now it's about saving Ulf Kristersson's face and authority,” a source within the Moderates explains to TT and continues:
< p>“Everyone's objections remain. But now the substantive issue was put in the second room, and Ulf's authority in the first place.”
On Friday, the Sweden Democrats say that they will try to stop the proposal with the help of a clause in the Riksdag rules which means that the proposal must be sent back to the committee.
– It is clear that there is great disagreement within several major parties on this issue, says SD group leader Linda Lindberg in a statement to SVT.
Even KD wants to stop the bill , according to TT.
To enforce a deportation, 117 members of the Riksdag must support it. SD and KD only have 91 mandates, but within the other parties there are members who are dissatisfied with the proposal.
