Google is releasing Find My Device to find offline devices this weekend

Google is launching Find My Device, a network of devices to find phones and accessories via Bluetooth, this weekend. The company says this in emails to customers. It should have been released last summer.

The release appears to be happening this weekend, as Google tells users the network will be live in three days goes, reports 9to5Google. The new Find My Device network must work with Bluetooth, not just WiFi. This network is comparable to what Apple and Samsung, for example, have been offering for some time. Bluetooth trackers from Tile, Chipolo and Pebblebee, among others, will receive support for this network, as will existing audio devices such as Pixel Buds and Sony headphones.

Google postponed the release to wait for the standard to prevent stalking via Find My Device to counteract. Google makes that standard with Apple. Apple also seems to be releasing the improvements soon and the updated Find My Device will soon be released. Users can manage their own devices via a new page and switch the function on or off. That is not yet possible, except for users who have already received the email from Google.
