Twelve-year-old arrested after school shooting in Finland

Foreign. A 12-year-old has died and two more of the same age have been injured after a shooting at a school in Vantaa in Finland, reports Yle. A 12-year-old suspect has been arrested with a firearm on him.

At nine o'clock on Tuesday local time, the police received an alert about a shooting at the school Viertolan koulu in Vantaa outside Helsinki in Finland.

All those involved, victims and perpetrators, are said to be 12 years old. One of the victims has died from his injuries. It is still unclear how serious the injuries are to the two injured children, writes Yle.

A witness tells Iltalehti that he heard shots just after nine o'clock.

– Then a terrible sound was heard screams and a couple of children ran across the yard.

The arrest of the suspect was made on the Helsinki side of the municipal border and proceeded calmly. The 12-year-old, who is a student at the school, was armed with a firearm which has now been seized by the police.

During the morning, the police urged the public to stay away from the area and not to open the door to strangers.< /p>

At the scene there are a large number of police cars and ambulances, as well as heavily armed police.

The city's crisis team has been convened to handle the situation.

Viertola school has approximately 800 students and 90 employees in the staff. Among other things, the school offers language classes in Swedish, teaching for the disabled and outpatient teaching, writes Yle.
