Microsoft will discontinue Test Base for Microsoft 365 on May 31

Microsoft will discontinue Test Base for Microsoft 365 on May 31, 2024: an Azure cloud platform that allows developers to check whether apps are compatible with the latest releases of Windows. Developers' data will be irrevocably deleted after that date.

A Microsoft employee writes in a blog post that no new updates will be released for Test Base and that no new features are on the way. The company reports that developers have until May 31, 2024 to consult and export their data.

In a support page, Microsoft explains why it is discontinuing Test Base. The company believes that “Windows 11's continued innovation has resolved a high percentage of compatibility issues” and that application vendors themselves already provide significant support. As a result, customers would rely less and less on Test Base. Microsoft refers users of the cloud platform to other company services, including App Assure and the Security Update Validation Program.
