The proposal included a provision allowing only the American flag and other official flags to be flown at US embassies and other State Department facilities, overturning the US State Department's 2021 approval allowing pride flags to be flown at embassies.
The USA not infrequently participates in pride parades – for example in Stockholm – with its own crew from the embassies.
Even southern flags will – perhaps not as unexpectedly – be banned at the US embassies from now on. However, no such flags have been seen at US embassies, probably not since the Civil War.
According to House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson, Republicans count the ban as a “conservative victory”, he tells Bloomberg.
