Larian Studios will not make a sequel to Baldur's Gate 3. CEO Swen Vincke said this on Thursday. The Belgian developer will also not make expansions for the RPG. Larian will continue to provide updates to Baldur's Gate 3.
Vincke reported during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco that Larian will not be working on a possible sequel to Baldur's Gate 3 or DLC. The studio previously considered working on expansions for the RPG, but Larian Studios has now decided against this, writes IGN, among others. That probably partly has to do with the use of the Dungeons & license. Dragons, the board game on which the gameplay and setting of Baldur's Gate 3 are based. Game and toy manufacturer Hasbro owns it, because it is the parent company of D&D publisher Wizards of The Coast.
“I understand the disappointment, because people love what we have made, but it is a story with a beginning, middle and end. It doesn't need anything more,” Vincke writes on X. In the same thread, the CEO adds that the RPG continues to receive updates. “Lots of things are coming, like mod support and additional cinematics for some endings.”
I understand there will be disappointment because people fell in love with what we created but it was a story with a beginning, middle and an end and it doesn't need more.
