Google will discontinue its Jamboard virtual whiteboard on December 31, 2024. From that date, the application will no longer be available for desktop, iOS, Android and Google Meet. Users must transfer their data to one of the (paid) partners themselves.
“In recent years we have heard from customers that whiteboard tools such as FigJam from Figma, Lucidspark from Lucid and Miro help them collaborate better. As these tools continue to improve and offer advanced features, we've decided to include our whiteboarding partners in Workspace, so we'll be retiring the Jamboard whiteboard app at the end of 2024 and continuing with the previously planned end of support for Google Jamboard devices,” Google writes on a support page.
Users can transfer their Jamboard files to Figma, Lucidspark and Miro. Even if they don't yet know which whiteboard application they want to use, they can download their Jamboard files and save them as a PDF or PNG file. Google does say that it is possible that files may no longer be fully editable after transferring, but that depends on the app. After December 31, the Jamboard app will no longer be accessible and the files will be deleted.
