The PlayStation 5 Pro is equipped with the same CPU as the regular PS5. Insider Gaming reports this. However, due to a high CPU frequency mode the CPU would run ten percent better than the standard console.
Gaming journalist Tom Henderson has shared more information about the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro on Insider Gaming. The journalist says that the system memory bandwidth will increase from 448GB per second to 576GB per second. This amounts to an increase of 28 percent. Because the memory is also more efficient, the actual increase in bandwidth may be higher.
About the high CPU frequency mode, Henderson says that more power is allocated to the CPU, causing the GPU to be clocked back by approximately 1.5 percent. This would result in 1 percent lower GPU performance. However, the mode brings the CPU to 3.85GHz, which is an increase of 10 percent compared to the standard PS5.
Last week, Henderson released all the necessary information about Sony's updated console. For example, the PS5 Pro is said to be two to three times as fast as the regular model for ray tracing tasks. The Pro console is said to have 33.5 teraflops of computing power. For comparison: the GPU of the regular PlayStation 5 has 10.28 teraflops of computing power. The rendering speed of the PS5 Pro is also said to be approximately 45 percent higher.
Henderson is known as a reputable source in the gaming industry. He has made accurate predictions about Sony products several times in the past, including the arrival of a customizable controller and a PlayStation 5 with a removable disc tray. Both products eventually came to market. The PlayStation 5 Pro is expected in the fall of 2024.
