The Consumer Competition Claims Foundation has filed a class action against LG for selling televisions at inflated prices. The foundation demands that LG compensate Dutch consumers who purchased a television from the brand between 2015 and 2019. The foundation claims that LG has entered into illegal agreements with online stores not to sell televisions below a set price. In addition, the organization claims that the South Korean company also monitored merchants to ensure they were adhering to these price restrictions.
According to the foundation, consumers who purchased an LG television between 2015 and 2019 on average Paid 100 euros too much for their TV. The exact amount each consumer overpaid varies by provider and depends on the type of television. Consumer Competition Claims encourages consumers to participate in the class action lawsuit. Consumers who purchased a television before this period, from 2013, can also join.
Last year, the Dutch Consumer & Consumer Authority concluded; Market still states that LG was involved in illegal price fixing for televisions. As a result, the ACM imposed a fine of eight million euros on the company. At the end of last year, both the ACM and the foundation started similar legal proceedings against Samsung because of such price restrictions.
