Firefox for iOS grows in France and Germany after browser selection screen

Firefox for iOS installations increased by 50 percent in Germany and 30 percent in France after Apple began offering a browser selection screen in iOS, Mozilla reports.

Mozilla does not provide figures for other countries in the notes to The Register. In the same article, Brave says it is considering releasing a Chromium-based version of its browser for iOS. All iOS browsers are now based on WebKit, as it is mandatory outside the EU and until last week worldwide.

If browsers want to use a different engine, they must create an EU-specific version of their app Apple previously made it clear. That makes it more difficult for browser builders to do that, because they then have to maintain two browsers. That is more expensive than updating a single browser for worldwide use.
