Sony releases PS5 update for better audio on DualSense controllers

Sony has released an update for the PlayStation 5 that should improve the audio volume and microphone of the DualSense controllers. In addition, Share Screen has been expanded and the brightness of the console lighting can be adjusted. The update was previously released as a beta.

With the update, the controller speakers can produce more volume and the noise cancellation of the controller's microphone has been improved. Sony says it has improved the noise cancellation with a new machine learning model, which should reduce the sound of pressed buttons and the game. In addition to the PS5 update, users must also update the controllers themselves. Users will see a pop-up for this.

In addition to the improved controller audio, users who follow other players' gameplay via Share Screen can now place pointers and emoji on the image. This way, viewers can point out things happening on the screen to the player and help the player. Emojis allow users to “motivate players and celebrate gameplay actions.” Players can disable these features within the Share Screen feature. Sony released these new features in beta for select users in early February.
