SD leader Sven-Olof Sällström is dead

Domestic. SD politician Sven-Olof “Svenne” Sällström is dead. Party leader Jimmie Åkesson announced this on Facebook.

“Today is a black day. For me personally. For Svenne's family and countless friends. For our party . And actually also for our country”, writes Jimmie Åkesson.

Sven-Olof Sällström has been seriously ill with cancer for over two years. In November, due to his health, he left his position as deputy chairman of the Riksdag's defense committee. He was fired in the Riksdag just before Christmas.

“Even though we, who were close to him, have long known that he was beyond saving, today's death sentence is hard to accept,” writes Jimmie Åkesson and continues: “Already last summer, while he was still able to stand on his feet and have a glass with good friends, Svenne held a big party, A party for life. It was extremely nice and worthy of all of us to have the opportunity to pay tribute to Svenne and his life. Get the chance to say things that need to be said before it's too late. For that I am very grateful.”

Sällström's importance to SD's success can, according to Åkesson “not emphasized enough, but everything has its time”.

“Today I am primarily mourning a dear friend. Rest in peace Svenne. I will never forget you,” Åkesson concludes his post.

Sven-Olof Sällström turned 55.
