The incident occurred at the same time that Minister of Justice Guðrún Hafsteinsdóttir presented a new bill on asylum seekers.
Member Jón Gunnarsson, who was previously Minister of Justice, helped himself by grabbing hold of a protester.
– It was nothing. I helped the police because a policeman was trying to tackle the man. I just see it as my civic duty to help the police if the situation is like that, says Gunnarsson according to Iceland Monitor.
Police chief Unnar Már Ástþórsson stated on Wednesday that the man who was arrested after the protest would likely be released again after interrogation during the day.
