American bomber flights over central Stockholm

Foreign. During Wednesday, the Armed Forces are conducting a joint exercise with the American Bomber Task Force. The American bombers are believed to be visible from Stockholm and Uppsala.

The aircraft, a B-1B Lancer and a B-52 Stratofortress escorted by Swedish Jas 39 Gripen, will pass over large parts of Swedish airspace and – if the weather permits – be visible over central Stockholm and Uppsala, among other places.

The plane will pass at an altitude of approximately 900 meters over Stockholm (Aviici arena and Centralbron). sometime during the time span 12.40–13.00 and then pass Arlanda and the Uppsala garrison.

It is a bilateral exercise between Sweden and the USA. After passing through Swedish airspace, the plane will join the NATO exercise Nordic Response, which is part of NATO's Steadfast Defender exercise series.

The purpose of the exercise is, according to the Swedish Armed Forces, to practice the defense of Sweden and the ability to operate together with other nations , in this case the United States. The armed forces have “gradually increased and developed cooperation capabilities by practicing the entire chain, from liaison to escort and bomb disposal with live ammunition”.
