Alliander warns that private individuals and companies will experience nuisance from the 'full power grid' for at least another ten years. For example, due to staff shortages and long procedures, the grid operator says the installation of new connections takes longer.
The company warns that the problems will become even greater in the coming years. Making the industry more sustainable, building new houses and removing gas from existing houses are mentioned as reasons. There would also be too much uncertainty about the permitted locations for new electricity infrastructure. Alliander CEO Maarten Otto wants provinces and municipalities to make faster and clearer decisions about where electricity stations, transformer houses and heating networks can be built. In 2023, the company said it will invest more than 1.4 billion euros in strengthening energy networks. The Dutch electricity grid is said to have become 'overcrowded' in recent years due to various social developments. The increasing number of solar panels, heat pumps and electric cars and the associated infrastructure is putting great pressure on the power grid. For this reason, TenneT in the province of Zeeland stopped accepting new applications for connections for large consumers last year. Stedin recently asked EV users not to charge their vehicles between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Update, Tuesday: It was wrongly suggested that the province of Zeeland was putting a stop to new requests. This has been improved.
