Game Freak announces Pokémon Legends: Z-A for Switch, releasing in 2025

Game Freak has announced its next Pokémon game for the Nintendo Switch. It will be a successor to open-world game Pokémon Legends: Arceus, with the subtitle Z-A. The game will be released worldwide next year.

Game Freak announced Pokémon Legends: Z-A on Tuesday afternoon as part of Pokémon Day 2024. The developer did not share any gameplay footage of the game. Few details are known about the game, although it is clear that it is set in the world of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, an ambitious new installment in the Pokémon game series, will arrive on Nintendo Switch systems in 2025,” The Pokémon Company wrote on Tuesday. “A new adventure awaits in Lumiose City, where an urban redevelopment plan is underway to turn the city into a place that belongs to both people and Pokémon.”

Z-A will be the second game in the Pokémon Legends -series. Pokémon Legends: Arceus was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2022. This was an open-world RPG with a new battle system, which gave players more freedom to approach and catch Pokémon. Z-A will also be the first full-fledged Pokémon game since Scarlet and Violet from late 2022.
