During Alejandro Mayorka's time in office, the illegal immigration to the United States has reached an all-time high, and hundreds of thousands of immigrants are pouring across the border into Mexico every month.

Republicans accuse the secretary of “deliberately and systematically” failing to secure the country's borders.

p>Alejandro Mayorkas has previously faced criticism by referring to the fact that relatives of his died in the Holocaust. Before becoming a minister, he served on the board of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS), an organization that works to increase Third World immigration to the United States.

The Republican-dominated House of Representatives voted to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas by one vote margin – 214–213. It is the first time in almost 150 years that such a process has been initiated against a sitting minister. However, Mayorkas is expected to be acquitted in the Senate, where the Democrats have a majority.
