An important message to the public in central Gothenburg was sent out at 11 a.m. about a heavy fire that broke out in the Oceana water park.
“Heavy smoke development is causing the emergency manager to ask everyone in the area to go indoors and close doors, windows and ventilation,” the message says.
Parts of the slide that caught fire then exploded, which was caught on film by several witnesses.
– We had to leave everything and run out the other side, says a witness to the explosion to SVT.
The police announce that there are cordons around the Oceana water park, both for motorists and pedestrians. Buildings adjacent to the site have been evacuated. The police ask the public not to actively go to the scene, both because of the development of smoke and so that the rescue work can be carried out efficiently.
A special event has been initiated by the police due to the fire. Right now the incident is being handled as a workplace accident, but this classification may change.
According to the police, the total number of people who went to hospital due to the fire is currently 12 people. According to Sahlgrenska University Hospital, all are reported to be slightly injured.
