The Huthi rebels in Yemen have created problems for Israel's ongoing war in Gaza – which is pointed out as pure genocide – by disrupting traffic on the Red Sea.

This has made the US and other countries see red. They have put together an alliance that operates at sea and also bombed targets in Yemen.

Defense Minister Pål Jonson's press secretary Johan Hjelmstrand now confirms that the US has requested that Sweden participate in the operation, reports SVT Nyheter.

The written request was received by the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 11 December last year.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) said earlier this week in the EU committee that it may be relevant for Sweden to participate in the US -led wars.

– We are looking at both EU-led missions and US-led ones, Kristersson said.

The Swedish Armed Forces announced earlier in January to SVT that it had received a request from the government to review the possibilities of supporting the operations in the Red Sea.
