The police on Södermalm and the Kronofogden have worked together in 2023 in operation “Slant” to target network criminals to recover the proceeds of crime. Among other things, more than 300 objects with a value of nine million kroner have been seized.

During 2023, the results from the Slant initiative have also prevented incorrect payments from the Social Insurance Agency, stopped approximately 80 drunk drivers and over 100 drug offenses have been reported.

The work is carried out through fixed and mobile traffic controls as well as through outreach activities in connection with the pub environment and other known residences.

– Södermalm neither is nor should it be a haven for network criminals and people who operate in that environment, says Henric Wahlgren, initiator and operations leader for “Slant”, on the police's website.

Cars are assessed on site
One of the evenings at the end of January, police officers stood ready at Skanstullsbron on Södermalm to carry out sobriety checks. A little further away, staff from the Enforcement Directorate were prepared to seize property in cases where the drivers have unpaid debts. Car after car was waved to the side of the road. Some of the motorists had to go along for testing as they were suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

When it turns out that a driver has an unpaid debt to the Crown Bailiff, the crown inspectors are called in. On site, they can confiscate the car itself, cash or other valuables that the driver has with him in the car. In total, for three evenings and nights, the police prosecuted people for drug offences, drunk driving, illegal driving and assault. The bailiff seized cars, cash, jewellery, watches, tools and branded clothing.

– Lifestyle criminals and network criminals have stated that they find it difficult to move around Södermalm due to the recurring checks, says Henric Wahlgren.< /p>
