The result of the election in the district in question has great public attention.
AFD's candidate did indeed win the first round two weeks ago. But the decisive round was won on Sunday by the Christian Democratic CDU's candidate, who received over 52 percent of the vote and thus won the position of Landrat, i.e. head of the district.
There have been demonstrations against the AFD with tens of thousands left-wing activists in Germany lately. The background is that it has been revealed that “secret” meetings have been held where extensive re-migration from Germany has been discussed.
