Plex, known for its media server software, plans to open its own store in February, where you can buy and rent movies and TV shows. Gonny van der Zwaag | iCulture.nl – January 19, 2024, 1:23 PM sharewhatsappfacebooktwittertelegramlinkedinmailprint
Plex executives revealed the plans to the website Lowpass. “Most studios” are ready to participate and there are “plans to complete the catalog shortly afterwards”. You can then watch almost all films and series from a wide range of studios for a fee. The store will also be integrated into other Plex features, such as the movie watchlists. Plex also announced plans to open a film and series store in 2020 and 2023, but says it is now really ready.

The delay is probably caused by a decline in advertising revenue. Due to a global decline in revenues, Plex had to lay off 20% of its staff last year. Now that the market has improved somewhat, Plex dares to announce some new functions. For example, we are working on a redesign of the user interface and there will be more social functions, such as public profiles that allow you to see what others are watching.
Last October, Plex introduced a new Discover Together feature, which lets others see what you were watching, how you rated movies and what you said about them to friends. Some users felt quite overwhelmed by this, especially if they were reluctant to share with others what porn movies they had been watching. Plex says it has now adjusted the function in such a way that such surprises will no longer occur.
The store will be a nice addition for Plex, although you may wonder whether the same offer wouldn't just be available at Pathé Will be found at home and other providers – for the same price.
