Kia EV5, new details on the electric SUV. Will he arrive? also a GT version

During Kia EV Day, the Korean car manufacturer unveiled several interesting new features, also providing more details on the new electric SUV Kia EV5 of which he already had provided a preview in August during the Chengdu Motor Show in China. A choice not made by chance given that this new battery-powered model will debut right in China. In any case, it will be then marketed in Korea and also in other markets, although no details were provided in this regard. We don't even know anything about prices.

DESIGN AND INTERIORS

KIA EV5 size4,615mm long x 1,875mm wide x 1,715mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,750mm. Design is not certainly something new since we have seen more times photos of this new model. The new SUV has a look reminiscent of the EV9. The EV5, however, will feature smaller dimensions than those of the EV9 and will allow to accommodate up to 5 passengers on board.

The interior also has several similarities to that of the EV9. In particular, the large panel with the 12.3-inch display of the instrumentation, the 5-inch one of the climate control and the 12.3-inch one of the infotainment system stands out. The cockpit has a minimalist look with the presence of physical controls reduced to a minimum. EV5 also supports OTA updates. Therefore, the SUV will be able to receive updates that will improve or add digital services. The three-zone climate control system allows individual control for the driver, front passenger and second-row occupants. Sustainable upholstery was also used for the interior.

ENGINES

New Kia EV5 is based on the E-GMP platformalready also used for other electric models of the Hyundai Group. As we know, this platform supports an 800 V architecture which allows for very high power charging. The SUV will be offered in China in the Standard, Long Range and Long Range AWD versions.

The first has a 160 kW motor combined with a battery with a capacity of of 64 kWh. There is talk of an autonomy of 530 km according, however, to the Chinese CLTC cycle. Let's move on to the Long Range model which can always count on the same 160 kW engine powered, this time, by an accumulator with a capacity of of 88 kWh. The mileage, again according to the CLTC cycle, reaches 720 km.

At the top of the range we have the Long Range AWD with dual 230 kW engines. Always 88 kWh battery for a range of 650 km (CLTC). For greater efficiency, the SUV will have of the heat pump as standard.

For Korea, all EV5 model variants are in development and will have small differences compared to those for China. The Standard model will have a 58 kWh battery and a 160 kW motor. The Long Range model will be equipped with an 81 kWh battery and the same 160 kW motor. The AWD model will have of a double 225 kW motor and an 81 kWh battery. Kia makes it known thatit is a GT version of its EV5 is also being developed, but no specific information has been shared about it.

On the safety front, the SUV will offer all the most recent driver assistance systems that he has developed. Finally, EV5 will support the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functions.
