The second generation of the BMW X2 is official. The car manufacturer debuted the new model which will be also offered in the 100% electric BMW iX2 version. Compared to the previous generation, the new BMW X2 changes radically, growing in size and becoming an SUV Coupé. To see the new car on the road, however, we will have to wait a little longer.
On the market, in fact, it will be available from March 2024 at a starting price of 44,800 euros (X2 sDrive18d). The electric starts from 60,000 euros.
DESIGN AND INTERIORS 
The new BMW X2 measures 4,554 mm long x 1,845 mm wide x 1,590 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,692 mm. Compared to the previous generation, the new model is 194 mm more longer, 21 mm longer wider and 64 mm wider high. The trunk offers ample capacity of 560 liters which rises to 1,470 liters when the rear seat backrests are folded down. 525-1,400 liters for the electric model.
The new BMW X2 is based on the FAAR platform, the same as the new BMW X1. Compared to the previous model, the look is much more muscular and the proportions have also changed. The front is characterized by a double kidney grille with almost hexagonal shapes which can be illuminated by choosing the BMW Iconic Glow option. The new LED headlights are standard, while on request it is available. It is possible to choose those with Matrix LED technology.
At the rear we find horizontal light clusters and a diffuser designed to accentuate the sporty look of this model. It must be said that the look of the new SUV Coupé changes significantly depending on the version chosen. For example, the most sporty M35i has a dedicated body kit which makes the design even more aggressive. The electric model, however, is characterized by some small features that allow maximizing aerodynamic efficiency. In fact, the Cx goes from 0.27 to 0.25.
To customize the appearance of the new BMW X2 (excluding the M35i version), the M Sport and M Sport Pro packages are available. Overall, the new SUV Coupé is proposed in 13 different colors. Wheels from 17 to 21 inches are available depending on the version chosen.
As for the interior, there are no big surprises. In fact, we find the well-known BMW Curved Displaywhich integrates the 10.25-inch display of the instruments and the 10.7-inch display of the infotainment system which features the iDrive 9 platform. In the front part of the central console there are two cup holders and the compartment for wireless charging of smartphones. On the central tunnel we find few physical controls including the transmission selector.
The automatic dual-zone climate control, the BMW Maps navigation system and the leather sports steering wheel are all standard in the new BMW X2, so as four USB-C ports.
ENGINES AND SAFETY 
The Coup&e SUV acute; is offered with petrol and diesel engines. All engines are combined as standard with a seven-speed Steptronic gearbox.
The range starts with the new BMW X2 sDrive18dwhich has a 4-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of 2 liters capable of producing 110 kW/150 HP and 360 Nm of torque. Speed maximum of 210 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds. Then we have the new BMW X2 sDrive20i which can rely on a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with mild hybrid technology. The unit is capable of delivering 115 kW/156 HP and 240 Nm of torque. Speed maximum speed of 213 km/h and 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.
At the top of the range we find the BMW X2 M35i xDrivewhich also offers all-wheel drive. The unit is a 2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine capable of delivering 221 kW/300 HP and 400 Nm of torque. Speed maximum of 250 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. In the summer of 2024 it will arrive an additional unit diesel.
On the driver assistance systems front, the SUV Coupé It offers as standard, among other things, cruise control, Speed Limit Info, Lane Departure Warning, front collision warning and Parking Assistant.
BMW IX2 
The electric model can rely, instead, on a powertrain made up of two electric motors. BMW iX2 xDrive30 has 230 kW/313 hp and 494 Nm of torque. maximum is of 180 km/h, while accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h takes 5.6 seconds. The powertrain is powered by a battery with a capacity of 64.8 kWhwhich allows an autonomy of 417 – 449 kmaccording to the WLTP cycle.
The accumulator can be recharged up to a maximum power of 130 kW in direct current. During the summer of 2024 it will arrive a new battery-powered version with a single motor.
