General Motors has decided to officially return to Europe. The American Group has been missing from the Old Continent for about 6 years, that is since selling Opel in 2017 for around $2.2 billion. Now, however, the American company intends to officially return to the European market, confirming a series of rumors that have circulated in recent times.

The announcement of this important news is was given by Jaclyn McQuaid, head of General Motors' continental business. As already anticipated in the past, the American Group will bring in Europe only electric cars. We will leave from Switzerland, with deliveries starting already during the first half of 2024. In the next two years, the American company plans to bring its electric models to Sweden, France and three other European countries. No mention for the Italian market.
The first battery-powered model that will be introduced in Europe will be the Cadillac Lyriq which we have talked about several times in the past. In Switzerland, you can already order with prices starting from 82,000 Swiss francs, i.e. 85,160 euros. GM plans to sell its Cadillac-branded electric vehicles directly to European consumers through its flagship websites and dealerships, including one already present in Zurich.
The models will be made at a Cadillac plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee, a factory not yet affected by the United Auto Workers strikes that have closed GM plants elsewhere in the United States. Cadillac plans to offer a full range of all-electric models in Europe by the end of this decade.
