Speaking of its new track supercar, Porsche says it is was designed by Grant Larson and Thorsten Klein of the Style Porsche team.
The 911 GT3 R rennsport will take its place as the successor to the Porsche 935. While the 935 was technically based on the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport, the 911 GT3 R rennsport uses the current 911 GT3 R as its basis. Under the extensively redesigned carbon bodywork lies a thoroughbred racing car.
The technical base, as already said, it is that of the GT3 R. The shapes of the bodywork have, however, been revised and is the aerodynamics have been refined. For example, in front it is the bumper has been redesigned where we find larger air intakes large. Porsche has also revised the shapes of the front wheel arches and removed the traditional rear-view mirrors which have been replaced by cameras. At the rear, however, the large wing stands out, reminiscent of that of the Brumos Porsche 935/77which helps to improve the downforce of the car even if the manufacturer did not want to provide precise numbers in this regard.
Also at the rear we find a full-width LED light bar with illuminated Porsche lettering. The supercar also adopts specific 18-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport M S9 tyres. The car will be offered in 7 different colors including Star Ruby and Signal Orange. The cockpit, clearly inspired by motorsport, is completely similar to that of the 911 GT3 R. In addition, on the sides of the passenger compartment we find the screens that show the images of the external cameras placed in place of the mirrors. All safety features comply with FIA standards. There is also a rollbar.
The beating heart is a 4.2-litre 6-cylinder boxer engine from the 911 GT3 R which can reach 9,400 rpm. Not having to submit to the limits imposed by the GT3 regulations, the power of this unit is been increased to 456 kW (620 HP) compared to the 416 kW (565 HP) of the 911 GT3 R. The engine, underlines Porsche, is able to work with e-fuels. Traction is rear, while the gearbox is a 6-speed sequential.
The chassis is also essentially identical to that of the GT3 R. So, this means that the supercar continues to feature adjustable racing dampers from KW. The car is delivered with a basic set-up which can then be be modified by owners based on needs.
Porsche adds that the new 911 GT3 R rennsport can count on an AP braking system and a fuel tank with a capacity of 117 litres. Finally, the manufacturer claims to have managed to keep the unladen weight to 1,240 kg. We are talking about a price of just over a million dollars.
