The new generation of the BMW 5 Series was presented in May. On the European market, the new sedan was launched with diesel and petrol engines, all Mild Hybrids. Now, the car manufacturer is expanding the range of the new 5 Series by announcing the arrival of models equipped with a Plug-in powertrain: BMW 530e and BMW 550e xDrive. There are still no details for the Italian market.

However, in Germany they will be available from November at a starting price of 65,300 euros and 77,300 euros respectively.

UP TO 100 KM OF AUTONOMY IN ELECTRICAL

By entering more in detail, the new BMW 530e has a powertrain made up of a 2-litre inline four-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology combined with a electric. Overall, there are 220 kW/299 HP available with a torque of 450 Nm. Speaking of performance, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h takes 6.3 seconds, while the speed maximum reaches 230 km/h.

To power the electric engine, a battery with a capacity of usable value of 19.4 kWhwhich allows an autonomy of 93-103 km according to the WLTP cycle. The accumulator can be recharged in alternating current up to a maximum power of 7.4 kW (0-100% in 3 hours and 15 minutes).

Instead, the new BMW 550e xDrive can rely on a 3-liter inline six-cylinder turbo petrol engine always combined with a electric. The system power is of 360 kW/489 HPwith a torque of 700 Nm. The speed maximum is electronically limited to 250 km/h, while going from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 4.3 seconds. The battery is always the same. In this case, however, the autonomy (WLTP) drops to 83-90 km.

Both models can count on an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. BMW 550e xDrive also features all-wheel drive. For the rest, there are no particular differences with the other models of the new generation of the BMW 5 Series. As standard, on the Plug-in models, we find 19-inch alloy wheels, the BMW IconicSounds Electric and only on the BMW 550e xDrive the 39;Adaptive Chassis Professional, which includes electronically controlled shock absorbers, lowered suspension and Integral Active Steering.
