Volkswagen Tiguan (2024) with MQB Evo and 100km Plug-in Hybrid | Video

Volkswagen debuted the new generation of the Tiguan which is based on the MQB Evo platform, also used on the new Passat Variant. We already have this model spoken in the past thanks to a series of spy photos.

Moreover, previously, the car manufacturer itself had provided some initial technical details. No pricing information yet. The new model should arrive on the market in early 2024.

THE DIMENSIONS GROW

Compared to the previous generation, the new Tiguan grows slightly in size. The SUV measures4,551 mm long x 1,939 mm wide x 1,640 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,681 mm. This is 32 mm more in length and 5 mm more in height. The boot space also increases, reaching 648 liters on the new model.

Volkswagen says that the driver and front passenger have 9 mm more space. of headroom, while people sitting behind benefit from 10 mm more. In the top of the range trim levels, electrically adjustable, ventilated and massage function seats will be made available.

The new model will be able to also count on an important technological update. In fact, the dashboard will be dominated by a 12.9-inch, 15-inch infotainment system touch displayin the top of the range versions. New is also the software platform, the same one we already have seen, for example, on the ID.7.

Graphics, structure and menu have been redesigned with the aim of making infotainment management more convenient. simple, intuitive and customizable. Volkswagen explains:

The display is It has in fact been structured into two touch bars, the top bar (at the top) and the bottom bar (at the bottom), and a Home screen. In large areas of the top bar and the Home screen, the driver can independently set the direct accesses you prefer. The principle is this: while, on the Home screen, the driver accesses the apps relating to any function he wishes, the personalized top bar and the static bottom bar always remain available on the display, considerably facilitating use.

Below the large touch display there are backlit touch sliders, which allow you to adjust functions such as temperature and volume. Obviously, there is no lack of digital instrumentation either.

ENGINES

Talking about the engines with which it will be proposed the new Tiguan, the German brand makes it known that the SUV can be have with unity petrol, diesel and Plug-in hybrids.

In particular, the PHEV modelswill be able to have powers of between 150 kW (204 HP) and 200 kW (272 HP). The powertrain is composed of a 1.5 TSI evo2 engine of 110 kW (150 HP) or 130 kW (177 kW) always combined with a 85 kW (115 HP) electric. The 150 kW version develops a system torque of 350 Nm, which in the case of the 200 kW version becomes 400 Nm. Both PHEV variants have a 6-speed DSG automatic transmission.

To power the unit electric with a 19.7 kWh battery (10.6 kWh previously) which allows an autonomy of approximately 100 km according to the WLTP cycle. The accumulator can be recharged with alternating current up to 11 kW and with direct current up to 50 kW. In this second case, a 10% battery can be recharged to 80% in approximately 25 minutes.

The New Tiguan will be also proposed with just Mild Hybrid 1.5 TSI evo2 engine in the 96 kW (130 HP) and 110 kW (150 HP) versions. In this case, we find a 7-speed DSG gearbox.

The SUV will be also offered with 2.0-litre turbo petrol engines from the EA888 evo4 range 150 kW (204 HP) with 320 Nm of torque and 195 kW (265 HP) ) with 400 Nm of torque, always combined with a 7-speed DSG gearbox.

In the Tiguan, Volkswagen is preparing to offer the current 2.0 liter turbodiesel engines of the EA288 evo series with two power levels: 110 kW (150 HP) with a torque of 360 Nm and 142 kW (193 HP) with a torque of 400 Nm. The 110 kW 2.0 TDI engine is reserved for front-wheel drive. The 142 kW version is instead combined as standard with 4MOTION all-wheel drive.

SAFETY

New Tiguan will be launched with a rich array of driver assistance systems. Among the new features, the parking assistance systems, which include Park Assist Plus, Park Assist Pro and the Memory function for Park Assist Pro, optional or standard depending on the range and to the equipment version.

Park Assist Plus is a system that allows you to enter and exit a parking lot in line or in an assisted manner. In this case the car takes control of acceleration, braking and steering. In the presence of Park Assist Pro, in the same situations the driver can enter and exit a car park even from outside the car, controlling the maneuver with your smartphone, via application. If the car is equipped with the Memory function for Park Assist Pro, upon request of the driver, the system records the last 50 meters traveled and therefore also the parking manoeuvre.

Thanks to the new platform, Volkswagen has developed a new generation of DCC adaptive chassis: the DCC Pro available as an option. Furthermore, we find a Vehicle Dynamics Manager, which manages the functions of the electronic blocks of the XDS differential and the components of the transverse dynamics of the adjustable shock absorbers in the presence of the DCC Pro.
