Electric car battery market: Chinese CATL continues to dominate

The Chinese company CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology) continues to dominate the market strong> of electric car batteries. According to the latest photograph taken by SNE Research, in the period January-July 2023, the company delivered 132.9 GWh of batteries. This is an increase of 54.3% compared to the same period in 2022 when 86.1 GWh of batteries were delivered.

In the first 7 months of the year, the Chinese battery giant is firmly in first place with a share of 36.6%. Contributing to this result is the constant growth of the company which is also expanding in Europe and North America. Furthermore, its batteries are also used on the Tesla Model 3/Model Y and on various models of the main Chinese car manufacturers.

WELL BYD

BYD also continues to growwhich in the January-July 2023 ranking finished in second place even if with numbers far from those of CATL. The Chinese company, however, recorded strong growth in the January-July 2023 period with 58.1 GWh of batteries delivered, compared to 29.9 GWh in 2022. This is a growth of 94.1%. BYD's market share in the period under review is was 16%.

Third step of the podium for LG Energy Solutionwith 51.4 GWh (+53.2%) and market share of 14.2%.
