ACI, used cars: ownership changes are growing in Italy in August 2023?

In August 2023, the used car market in Italy closed positively. According to the latest ACI report, changes of ownership of four-wheelers, net of mini-transfers, grew by 5.7% compared to the same period last year . Overall, we are talking about 183,282 changes of ownership. Looking at the data for the first 8 months of 2023, 1,896,550 changes of ownership were recorded, equal to a growth of 6.6%.

Therefore, for every 100 new cars, 219 used ones were sold in August 2023 and 181 in the first eight months of the year. Looking at the data from the point of view of engines, traditional ones still prevail (diesel at 49.1% and petrol at 35%). The share of petrol hybrids reaches 4.5%.

The second-hand electric car market, however, does not take off. According to ACI data, BEVs reach a share of just 0.5%. Looking at minivoltureon the other hand, the primacy of diesel engines is confirmed (52.6% share in August, although down compared to 53.6% in 2022). Petrol hybrids rise to 6.1%, with LPG cars to 7.5%.


In August radiation continues to drop in the car sector, resulting in yet another growth in the Italian fleet. The month has ended. closed, according to ACI data, with a drop in radiation of 2.4% compared to August 2022. The unit replacement rate is amounted to 0.72 (72 were decommissioned for every 100 new cars), reaching a total of 0.62 in the first eight months of the year.

From January to August 2023, compared to the same period of the last year, radiation from cars dropped by 8.3%.
